Nangeng Zhang, serving as Chairman and CEO of Canaan, brings with him extensive experience encompassing electronic device design, engineering, manufacturing, quality control, and research and development. He is responsible for formulating and overseeing the company’s overall development strategies and operations. Mr. Zhang’s journey began with a role as an assistant researcher at the Beijing Remote Sensing and Communication Technology Institution, specializing in antenna, detector, photoelectric measuring equipment, and mid-wave infrared camera research and development from August 2005 to July 2008. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electronic information engineering and a master’s degree in software engineering from Beihang University. Mr. Zhang’s commitment to learning and growth led him to pursue a Ph.D. degree at Beihang University from September 2010 to October 2013.
James Cheng, the CFO of Canaan, boasts over 20 years of experience in financial planning and management. Before joining Canaan, he served as a Vice President for Zhaopin.com, a career platform in China formerly listed on the NYSE, from September 2015 to July 2021. Between September 2013 to September 2015, Mr. Cheng worked as the Director of Finance for Lenovo’s China and Asia Pacific Division. He also held several managerial roles at Nokia China, such as senior sales finance controller, from February 2005 to August 2013. Further enriching his background, he worked as a demand planning manager at Effem Foods Beijing, a Mars company, from March 2003 to January 2005. Mr. Cheng’s educational credentials include a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2000, an MBA degree from the BiMBA program at Peking University in 2014, and a Master of Science in Global Finance degree from Fordham University in New York in 2014.
